Dragons fall in district play

CLIO — The Swartz Creek baseball team was shut out by Flushing in the No. 3-1 Clio district semifinals last Saturday, after Clio had beaten Flint Northern, 16-0, in last Tuesday's pre-district game. Carman- Ainsworth then beat Clio, 5-3, in the other semifinal on Saturday. That put Flushing and Carman-Ainsworth in the title game that Flushing easily won in an 8-0 mercy-ruled fiveinning affair.

Austin Gibson took the loss for Creek in the semifinal, going the distance with one strikeout and giving up four hits. The Dragons stranded 10 runners on base and had four hits which came from Gibson’s two, while Cody Clontz and Cory Milbrot each had one.

“Key to the game was getting the big hit,” said Creek coach Lance Siegwald. “We struggled at executing bunts and as a team, we struggled offensively. We played good defense and pitched well, however could not play small ball. It is a good building block for next year.” — L.P.
