Hometown Days gets underway

SWARTZ CREEK – Brighten up, sunshine … it’s “Days” time.

Hometown Days will be in full swing with plenty of chances for fun, food and friendship.

Many attractions open at 4 p.m. today, and this year’s lineup includes some all-time favorites as well as some new events.

Parking is available at the plaza on Miller and Seymour roads, with shuttle service provided to the festival grounds.

Arnold Amusements will offer $20 wristbands for unlimited rides from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

In addition, there will be free rides offered from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday, compliments of Randy Wise Auto Mall and Arnold Amusements.

The annual fireworks display, sponsored by Patsy Lou Automotive Group, will light up the skies from the football field starting at dusk Friday. A ground show will precede the aerial display.

The Hometown Days parade, brought to you by Sharp Funeral Homes, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Performing Arts Center, and continue through downtown to St. Mary Queen of Angels church.

The Entertainment Tent will be rockin’ nightly with local bands as well as the Rhythm Gypsies on Friday and Green Bottle Fly on Saturday. Cover charges may apply.

Teen bands will perform in the Meijer Community Tent, which also will host performances by local dance troupes, plus a coloring contest Friday and Saturday and a child identification program at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Still Water Creek will perform a benefit concert at 9 p.m. Saturday in the Kid Zone. The concert will benefit the Middle School’s Giving Tree program.

Great Lakes Agricultural Fair again will sponsor a free farm breakfast and agricultural education exhibit from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.

The local firefighters will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Fire Station #1 on Civic Drive.

The firefighters, along with SageLink Credit Union, will sponsor the Bubbleball tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

New this year will be free Sea Lion Splash shows sponsored by Financial Plus. Shows are set for 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday; 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.

Animal lovers also will enjoy the return of Whispering Pines traveling zoo, as well as the pet awareness and adoption exhibit sponsored by Swartz Creek Veterinary Clinic and Sam’s Club.

The annual car show opens at noon Saturday on Fortino Drive.

A Sunday morning church service will take place at 11 a.m. in the Kid Zone tent, followed by a free ice cream social at 12:30 p.m., sponsored by Ashby’s Ice Cream and Feather ‘N Fin.

These are just some of the highlights of this year’s festival, the culmination of years of hard work by the Hometown Days committee.
