Free “Writing a Business Plan” Workshop in Flint

FLINT – A free “Writing a Business Plan” Workshop is being presented at Kettering University, June 8 from 1-4 p.m.

Presented by the Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC) and hosted by Kettering University; this workshop covers the specifics of business planning including market research, marketing, finance, legal, operations, and management. Tools, steps, and a workbook for creating a business plan draft are included.

For early stage or start-up businesses, the pre-requisite to this workshop is attending the “Starting a Business” workshop which puts you on a preparation path to be ready for “Writing a Business Plan”. These and other “Venture Start” workshops are offered at multiple locations and dates around the region and the state at www.sbdcmichigan.org/training.

There is no fee for this workshop or any of the “Venture Start” workshops offered by MI-SBDC I-69 Trade Corridor regional office. Public invited to free pulmonary program

FLINT – McLaren’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is hosting its annual free community educational luncheon program on June 22 with the presentation at 11 a.m. to noon. The event goes to 2 p.m. Reservations are required by June 17.

It takes place at McLaren Pulmonary Rehabilitation, located in the McLaren Medical Education Building, G-3230 Beecher Rd., Flint (lower level).

This year’s guest speaker is Reda E. Girgis, MD. Dr. Girgis is the Medical Director of Lung Transplantation and Pulmonary Hypertension at the Richard DeVos Heart and Lung Transplant Program in Grand Rapids. He will present “Lung Transplantation: Who is a Candidate?”

Small Business Workshops in June

FLINT – A wide variety of top level small business workshops scheduled in June are being announced by the Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC). Workshops are open to anyone but have been selected especially for Flint businesses that want to start or grow. Workshops are free or very low cost due to additional assistance funds provided to Flint recently by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

June 14 is “Knock Your Socks Off Customer Service” training, 10 a.m. to noon at the Oak Business Center. This workshop will cover how to make customers feel important; how to create a plan for great customer service and communicate it to employees; how to diffuse angry customers without dismissing them; age and culturally sensitive customer service; and tips for great phone customer service. No fee but advance registration required.

June 21, best-selling author and entrepreneur Evan Baehr is coming to Flint. The author of GET BACKED: Craft Your Story, Build the Perfect Pitch Deck and Launch the Venture of Your Dreams and co-founder of the online lending platform Able Lending will present tips for building a funding presentation that will capture the imagination of lenders or investors. Fee for the workshop is $10 but the first 60 registrations will receive a free copy of GET BACKED, a $30 value.
