Trucks collide head-on

GAINES TOWNSHIP – Two men escaped serious harm in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in Gaines Township.

A 57-year-old Clarkston man was turning left from eastbound Grand Blanc Road onto southbound Morrish Road about 12:35 p.m. when his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup collided with a 2002 Ford stake truck going west, according to a state police report.

The flatbed commercial truck was driven by a 42-year-old Flint man, according to police. It sustained “disabling damage,” police said.

The Silverado driver reportedly told officers he thought the intersection was a four-way stop. – L.R.

Road rage alleged

SWARTZ CREEK – A Swartz Creek man was arrested on suspicion of felonious assault after an alleged road rage incident Tuesday, July 4.

The victim, a 54-year-old Swartz Creek man, told police the driver of a pickup truck was tailgating him as he drove through Winchester Village around 9:30 a.m.

When the victim stopped at Cappy Lane and Fairchild Street, both drivers got out of their vehicles and exchanged words, according to a police report.

The victim returned to his vehicle and proceeded toward the police department but missed the turn from Miller Road to Fortino Drive and pulled into the adjacent parking lot.

Reports indicate the suspect, 53, also turned into the lot and rammed the back of the victim’s truck.

A witness corroborated the victim’s account of the incident. – L.R.

Shooting accidental

SWARTZ CREEK – A 31-year-old Swartz Creek man suffered a leg injury when a .40-caliber handgun discharged while he was cleaning it.

The incident occurred about 11:20 a.m. Friday, July 6, in the 4300 block of Roundhouse. – L.R.

Fight erupts at arena

CLAYTON TOWNSHIP – Police responded to a large fight Saturday, July 8, at Flint Iceland Arenas.

Reports indicate that several spectators at a mixed martial arts match began fighting in the stands.

Police Chief William Tucker did not have additional details by press time. – L.R.
