Along for the slide

Photos by Lania Rocha

Ava Gaskins-Day catches her breath, and Francine Sprowl takes a little spin, on the giant slip and slide Saturday, Aug. 5, at Elms Park. The 2nd annual event drew about 200 sliders and raised around $700 for park improvements. In contrast to 2016’s blistering heat, this year’s weather was a little cool and a little windy, but it didn’t dampen the fun for the sliders, including a group of rough-and-tumble boys. Several participants also took the opportunity to complete park improvement feedback forms. City Manager Adam Zettel will compile the data in coming weeks and let the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board know what the residents hope to see in the parks system.
