Police seek people throwing objects at moving vehicles

GAINES TOWNSHIP – The Gaines Township Police are investigating four cases over the last 10 months where vehicles were damaged in the 6000 block of Duffield Road, south of Hill Road.

The last incident occurred about 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, about 3/10 of a mile south of Hill Road, according to Police Chief Mark Schmitzer.

“A 2008 black Dodge Ram Pickup truck being driven by a 39-year-old Gaines Township man was struck in the center of the windshield by a round white object, breaking the window and knocking off the interior rear-view mirror,” the chief said. “In the past instances, there have been large chunks of ice thrown, causing extensive damage to the vehicles.”

All of the incidents have occurred after dark, and no suspects have been seen as they disappear into the tree line, Schmitzer said. In each case, the object thrown came from the west side of the roadway.

Anyone having information is requested to contact the Gaines Township Police at 989-271-6039. – L.R.
