Dragons routed by Flushing in football

Photo by Timothy Mucciante FLUSHING – Swartz Creek took a beating in last Thursday’s varsity football game against Flushing, losing 53-12. The Dragons were held scoreless until the final quarter, but by then, Swartz Creek was already down 47-0.

Flushing’s Nick Morrison hit a 32-yard field goal to strike first. Logan Murphy then reeled in a 19-yard pass from Cal Endicott to take Flushing to a 9-0 lead to end the first. The Raiders then picked up the pace in the second, tallying another 22 points before the half. Raylon Roberts hit pay dirt on a 6-yard run for a 16-0 lead. Tyler Morris and Aidan Harrison both caught 21-yard passes for a touchdown each to take Flushing up 30-0. Morrison then added another field goal before the break.

After halftime, Roberts took a 45-yard run all the way to the house for a 40-0 lead. Joe Jaruzel then caught a 15-yard pass for Flushing’s sixth touchdown of the game. Swartz Creek was finally able to gain a little bit of traction in the fourth when Smith rushed for a 1-yard touchdown to finally get on the board. But Swartz Creek then failed the two-point conversion. Jalen Price- Rose then drove in a 77-yard reception for a second Swartz Creek touchdown. Flushing’s Robert McLemore then added a final touchdown for the Raiders to seal the 53-12 win.

Flushing racked up 405 total offensive yards to Swartz Creek’s 222. Cal Endicott was 14-of-19 for 242 yards and four touchdowns for the Raiders. Roberts had eight carries for 58 yards and a pair of touchdowns as well as three receptions for 63 yards. Endicott had 34 yards on 10 keepers and Jaruzel had three catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Morris had three catches for 45 yards and a touchdown, Murphy also had three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown and Harrison had one reception for 21 yards and a touchdown. Nick Morrison tallied three field goals and five extra points.

For Swartz Creek, Michael Smith was 0-for-4 passing. Blake Hamilton then came in to go 4-for-7 for 145 yards and a touchdown. Price-Rose’s only reception was the 77-yard pass for a touchdown. Quay Humphries reeled in two passes for 54 yards, Myles Johnson had one catch for 15 yards and Murphy allied 11 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Marshall had a pair of carries for 14 yards and Smith had six carries for three yards.

The Dragons, 0-2, host Clio, 0-2, at home in their first Friday night game of the season at 7 p.m.
