Three Creek wrestlers go undefeated at invite

Photo by Austin VanDaele SWARTZ CREEK – The Swartz Creek varsity wrestling team went 2-3 in the Swartz Creek Team Invite on Saturday. Swartz Creek defeated Avondale 49-30 and Carman-Ainsworth 51-27 in the duals, but lost to Brandon 51-30, DeWitt 60-18 and Kearsley 50-25.

Joe Carpenter at 135, Lance Clapp at 285 and Breckin Griswatsch at 125 led the way for the Dragons, going 5-0 in their respective weight classes. Carpenter’s victories included a pin over DeWitt’s Ronald Slater and a 17-8 major decision over Avondale’s Adam Good. Griswatsch’s wins included three pins and a 7-6 decision over DeWitt’s Luke York. Clapp recorded three pins and two wins by forfeit.

Zach Harper went 4-1 at 171 lbs. Harper won an 8-4 decision over Carman-Ainsworth’s Jordan Edwards, a 10-7 decision over DeWitt’s Jacob Brandt and two matches by forfeit. His only loss came on a technical fall to Kearsley’s Tyler Byczynski.

Cameron Spohn at 189 also went undefeated on the day at 2-0. Spohn pinned Carman-Ainsworth’s Josiah Gordon and won a 9-0 major decision over Kearsley’s Brandon Fisher.

Joe Loder at 215 went 3-2 with a forfeit win and pins over Carman- Ainsworth’s Nathan Taylor and Kearsley’s Gabe Mosher. Matthais Kingen at 103 went 2-3 with a win by forfeit and a 7-6 decision over Avondale’s Joe Reseigh.

Micah Kingen at 130, Malachi Kingen at 130 and Caleb Pelikanat 112 each went 1-3. Hayden Lurvey at 160 went 1-4, and Travis Truett at 189 went 1-2. Gavin Thompson at 145 went 0-5, and Brennon Larion at 152 went 0-1.

Swartz Creek also hosted a trimeet against Linden and Owosso on Wednesday night after we went to press.
