Swartz Creek’s Clapp takes 7th place at states

Photo by Jesse Cummins DETROIT—Swartz Creek’s Lance Clapp at 285 lbs. placed seventh overall at the state championship at Ford Field on Friday and Saturday, winning a 5-2 decision over Livonia Franklin’s Jake Swirple in the seventh-place match. Clapp also started his day with a victory by fall over Swirple at 5:41 in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, Clapp lost a 5-4 decision to Grand Ledge’s Brady Riggs, sending him to the consolation bracket. In the blood rounds, Clapp pinned Kalamazoo Central’s Jacob Seager at 1:36, but then lost a 3-1 decision to Macomb Dakota’s Rahmi Khalil in the consolation quarterfinals, sending Clapp to the seventh-place match. Clapp, a senior, finished the season with a 46-10 overall record.
