Be aware of weed ordinance

GAINES TOWNSHIP – The Township of Gaines has an ordinance to regulate the cutting of grass and weeds over 6 inches tall. The township will cut those grasses and weeds at residences in violation and assess the costs to the property as a tax LEIN, per ordinance #86. – L.R.

Be aware of junk car rules

GAINES TOWNSHIP – Gaines Township has been experiencing a large number of inoperable and unregistered vehicles accumulating on properties in the township in violation of ordinance #72, which addresses blight, according to police Chief Mark Schmitzer.

There will be a stronger effort to take enforcement action throughout the township, Schmitzer said.

“It should be understood all fines and costs can be assessed as a tax LEIN, plus additional court costs incurred if the matter is sent to a formal hearing in the 67th District Court,” he said. – L.R.

Prescription drug take-back

ALL AREAS – A prescription drug take-back will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28 at the Metro Police Authority headquarters on Hill 23 Drive, off Hill Road, and the Swartz Creek District office. – L.R.

Reserve pavilions

SWARTZ CREEK – Area residents planning events at Elms or Winshall parks must reserve pavilions. Rental fees are charged for events on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays. There is a $100 refundable deposit. Information: 810-635- 4464. – L.R.
