Photo by Kylee Richardson LAPEER – The Swartz Creek girls’ soccer team was knocked out of playoff contention in the first round of the Div. 1 district play, losing to Davison 3-2 in overtime on May 29.

Davison jumped to a 1-0 lead on a breakaway in the first half. The Lady Dragons tied the score in the 25th minute of the second half off a free kick by Emma Lemieux outside the 20. Davison broke the tie on the rebound from a free kick with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. Payton Gilmore then sent that game into overtime with a penalty kick goal with 1:15 left on the clock. Davison scored in the first of two 10-minute overtime periods, and Swartz Creek was unable to recover.

“This was a well contested match between two equally talented teams,” said Swartz Creek coach Chad Reid. “We had a great year with great players. I highly enjoyed coaching this group of girls. I couldn’t ask for a better group of players to start my high school coaching career. Thank you, Swartz Creek, for your support.”
