BAY CITY – Swattz Creek qualified a pair of individuals for wrestling regionals after Joe Carpenter took first at 140 and Brennen Larion fourth at 160 during Saturday’s Div. 1 individual districts at Bay City Western.
Carpenter’s district title run started with an 8-2 win over Flushing before pinning Port Huron in 1:09. He then took a 7-1 decision over Davison in the title match. At 145, Gavin Thompson was pinned by Midland Dow in 4:55.
Larion pinned Saginaw Heritage in 4:00 and then lost to Dow by fall in 2:51. He pinned Dow in 1:46 before falling to Grand Blanc by pin in 2:05 to take fourth place.
At 119, Matthais Kingen lost by fall in 4:21 to Lapeer and then dropped a 9-2 decision to Port Huron Northern.
Malachi Kingen opened up at 130 with a loss by fall in 2:35 to Bay City Central. At 135, Gavin Lawerence began the day with a loss to Grand Blanc by a 21-5 technical fall and then lost by fall to Grand Blanc in 4:24.
Cody Casemore was pinned in 5:52 by Carman-Ainsworth at 152.
At 171, Logan Sloan lost his opener to Saginaw Arthur Hill, 9-4. Destine Bishop opened the 103 bracket with a win by disqualification over Carman- Ainsworth. He then lost by fall in 1:03 to Davison. His day ended by being pinned by Bay City Western in 0:41.
During the team districts last Thursday, Swartz Creek was eliminated in a 48-6 loss to Grand Blanc at home.
Carpenter lost 9-7, Thompson dropped a 15-5 major decision and Josh Rogers lost by fall at 152. Larion won 9-7, Logan Sloan was pinned at 171 and Bishop lost by fall. Brady Taubitz was pinned at 112, Matthias Kingen lost by fall and Micah Kingen won 5-4 at 125.
Malachi Kingen lost by fall and Lawerence lost a 21-4 technical.
Prior to that, Creek defeated Flint 66-18. Lawerence won by fall in 3:07, Thompson won by fall in 3:07 and Larion secured the pin in just 0:28. Bishop got the win by fall in 0:14.
The two qualifiers will now head to Saturday’s Div. 1 regional at Clarkston. – B.P.
