Atlas Twp. clerk, trustee races to be determined in primary

ATLAS TWP. — In the race for Atlas Township supervisor, Republicans will select a candidate to go up against a lone Democratic challenger in November.

Incumbent Supervisor Teresa L. Onica faces competition from Daniel Glomson and Shirley Kautman-Jones.

Onica, who held the office of township clerk from 2000 to 2016, was elected supervisor in the 2016 election.

Kautman-Jones served as Atlas Township supervisor from 2008 to 2016. Before that, she served on the Goodrich Area Schools Board of Education.

Republican Tracy D. Butcher also had filed for the supervisor’s post but has since withdrawn from the race.

The top vote-getter will face Democrat Justin D. Folts in the general election.

The results of the August Republican primary will determine who will be the township clerk for the next four years. With no Democratic candidates, the choice is between incumbent Katherine M. Vick and newcomer Angela M. Grogan. Vick has held the clerk’s position since being elected in 2016.

Treasurer Ann Marie Moore is unopposed in her bid for re-election.

Three candidates are vying for two available trustee seats. Incumbents Barry M. June and Patrick Major face newcomer Fred Forys, former fire chief, in the Republican primary.

June has served as a township trustee since 2004. Major has served two terms as a trustee.

With no Democratic challengers, the results of the primary will determine who will fill the trustee posts. — L.R.
