Dragons compete in Maumee Bay Classic

OREGON, OH – The Swartz Creek wrestling team finished tied for 38th in the 47-team Maumee Bay Classic at Oregon Clay High School in Ohio last Friday and Saturday.

At 106 lbs., Mason Feudale lost his first match to Perkins by major decision before rebounding with a 12-3 major decision win over Waite in the first consolation round. Feudale then lost by fall to Oak Harbor in the second consolation round. Wyatt Matthews, at 120, lost by major decision in the first round and received a bye in the first consolation round. In the second consolation round, Matthews lost by decision to Whitmer.

Levi Lloyd, at 126, began with a bye in the first round before losing by fall to Edison in the second round. Lloyd responded with a 10-6 decision win over Solon and a win by fall at 1:21 before losing in the fourth consolation round by decision to Perry. At 132, Malachi Kingen began with a bye in the first round. Kingen then lost by fall to Waite before defeating Monroeville by fall at 3:32 in the second consolation round. Kingen then lost fall to Findlay in the third consolation round.

At 138, Keagen Larion had a firstround bye and then lost by fall to Oak Harbor. After a bye in the second consolation round, Larion won by fall over Monroeville at 0:49 before losing by fall to Butler in the fourth consolation round. Evan Lloyd, at 145, lost by fall in his first match to Olentangy Orange before losing by major decision to Kenton Ridge in the second consolation round. At 152, Gavin Lawerence lost by fall to Clay in the first round and by technical fall to Delta in the first consolation round.

Logan Sloan, at 160, began with a bye in the first round before losing by fall to Perrysburg in the second round. Sloan then received a bye in the second consolation round before losing by fall to Brighton. At 170, Brennen Larion won his first match by fall at 1:08 over CVCA and then won by injury default over Springboro in the second round. Larion’s first loss came by major decision to Warren Woods-Tower in the quarterfinal and he was eliminated with a loss by major decision to Wauseon in the fourth consolation round.

Last Wednesday, Swartz Creek lost both of its duals in a Flint Metro League meet at home, losing 55-24 to Kearsley and 45-27 to Lake Fenton.

Against Kearsley, Feudale won his match by fall at 112, as did Ian Slackta at 125 and Chase Reynolds at 130. At 160, Sloan won his match by forfeit. Losing their matches by fall were Matthais Kingen at 119, Keagan Larion at 140, Noah Kalakay at 145 and Jason Jones at 285. Malachi Kingen, at 135, lost by decision and Brennen Larion, at 171, lost by major decision. Kearsley also won by forfeit at 103, 189 and 215.

Against Lake Fenton, both Matthais Kingen and Reynolds won by forfeit. Malachi Kingen won by 10-4 decision, Keagen Larion won by fall, Sloan won by 11-4 decision and Brennen Larion won by 14-0 major decision. Feudale, Kalakay, Lawerence and Jones all lost by fall and Levi Lloyd, at 130, lost by decision. Lake Fenton won by forfeit at 103, 189 and 215.

Swartz Creek competed in a Flint Metro League meet at Owosso on Wednesday after we went to press and is at the Shepherd Invite on Saturday.
