DAVISON TWP. — The family of Jose Salcedo, 23, of Attica Township, has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral costs and other expenses.

Salcedo was struck and killed by a passing car sometime between 6:15-7:15 a.m. Jan. 13 in the 1000 block of Gale Road, north of Lapeer Road.

A mail carrier reportedly found the body in a ditch at about 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Jan. 14 – more than 24 hours after the crash.

An unidentified man came forward early Saturday evening when the Davison Township Police received a call from a person who saw media coverage of the incident.

He told police he believed he may have had some involvement in the accident, said Davison Township Police Chief Jay Rendon.

Detectives have been in contact with him and Rendon said there is still an ongoing investigation.

Release of details, he said, will still be limited until it is appropriate to release.

Maribel Rodriguez, the mother of Salcedo’s children, started the GoFundMe page to raise money for his burial expenses, Jan. 19.

“I just lost the love of my life,” she said in a press release about the fund. “Unfortunately, he is leaving behind our two beautiful boys. This is the most tragedy me and my family has ever gone through.”

Rendon said Salcedo was reported missing late morning Friday, Jan. 13 after he left his car on the Irish Road exit ramp from I-69 and told passengers he needed to go get oil for the vehicle.

Police confirmed he purchased oil at Menards, 7410 E. Court St., but somehow ended up on Gale Road where his body was found.

If anyone has further information about the case, they are urged to call Det. Terry Coon at 810-653-5656, ext. 7138.
