Shooting suspect arrested after three-hour standoff


FLINT TWP. — A suspect is in custody following an early morning shooting that took place in Flint Township on Monday.

At approximately 7:55 a.m., officers with the Flint Township Police Department were dispatched to the 2300 block of Austins Parkway for a shooting. Officers learned that a 44-year-old male resident of Flint Township had been shot and that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Investigators were able to quickly identify a 37-year-old suspect and located him inside a Flint Township residence in the 3200 block of Augusta Street.

After a three-hour standoff, the suspect surrendered to police and was later lodged at the Genesee County Jail. The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.

This case will be presented to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office for formal charges.

The Flint Township Police Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police ES team, City of Flint Police Department, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and the Metro Police Authority of Genesee County.
